Zola | Spotlight on Ari Wegner

Zola | Spotlight on Ari Wegner

Starts: Thursday, 22 August 2024
Ends: Thursday, 22 August 2024
Inspired by real-life, viral tweets from A’Ziah ‘Zola’ King and a subsequent Rolling Stone article, black comedy crime flick Zola follows stripper Zola King (Taylour Paige) on a wild trip to Florida with fellow performer Stefani (Riley Keough). Things get out of hand when a hustle for strip club profits quickly descends into a violent whirlwind of prostitution and extortion. Nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, Zola is a cautionary tale about the hazards of sex work in the digital age, and an exploration of online and offline personas. ‘…a raw and sometimes chilling and often darkly funny adventure’ – Chicago Sun-Times Available as part of a discounted four-film Spotlight on Ari Wegner Pass along with Stray (Dustin Feneley, 2018), Lady Macbeth (William Oldroyd, 2016), and In Fabric (Peter Strickland, 2018).

COMMON TIMES

New to Common Times? Here's our Quick Start Guide to help you.

Common Times acknowledges the traditional owners, first storytellers and custodians of the land we live on. We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ongoing connection to land, sea, and community. Their sovereignty was never ceded.
