Starts: Saturday, 11 May 2024
Ends: Saturday, 11 May 2024
Join Sonya Rankine of Lakun Mara to discover the art of traditional Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri weaving. Create your own small basket or mat using natural fibres. Sonya is a proud Ngarrindjeri, Narungga, Ngadjuri, and Wirangu woman and an award-winning artist and recipient of the 2019 OUR MOB Don Dunstan Emerging Artist prize, 2021 NAIDOC SA Artist of the Year and exhibiting artist of the 2021 Tarnanthi Art Exhibition at the Art Gallery of SA. Sonya will share with you the rich cultural tradition of weaving and the importance of weaving for Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri First Nations people of South Australia. For Sonja, weaving is more than just art, it is the important practice of cultural revival and maintenance. Sonya will also share examples of other basket weaving techniques she has incorporated into her art practice to create contemporary pieces that blend the cultural tradition of weaving. Winemaker Belinda van Eyssen will guide you through a tasting of The Cutting's range of boutique wines set in the very place where they were meticulously hand crafted. Come and join in a day of creativity, culture and community with picturesque vineyard views while sipping on delicious wines. Workshop spaces are limited, so book without delay. *Platters are available to purchase at an additional cost and must be pre-purchased.
