The Long Way: Kevin Chin

The Long Way: Kevin Chin

Starts: Thursday, 09 May 2024
Ends: Sunday, 28 July 2024
In a vast new solo show, Kevin Chin’s recent series of ethereal paintings is contextualised by a curated selection of highlights from his 15-year practice. ‘The Long Way: Kevin Chin’ is a major exhibition at Town Hall Gallery taking viewers on a journey into borderless new territories. Piecing together cues from across continents, Chin challenges traditional conventions of composition to create dreamscapes that are simultaneously familiar and foreign. Combining his mastery of technical precision with a distinctive colour palette and elements of magic realism, Chin’s paintings are transcendental. Offering moments of warmth, solace and retreat, they encourage more boundless ways of wandering the world. The public is welcomed to attend free tours of the exhibition and hear directly from curators and the artist about the work and the artist’s process. Registration is essential. The exhibition and the curator-led tours extend Chin’s ongoing dialogue with the gallery since his work featured in the Town Hall Gallery group shows ‘Imagined Worlds’ in 2016 and ‘Shelter in Place’ in 2021.
