The Laramie Project is known worldwide as an 'iconic' theatre piece based on the tragic 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man in Laramie, Wyoming. Creator Moisés Kaufman and company members of his New York based Tectonic Theater Project, visited Laramie on six occasions over the following two years in an attempt to understand what happened to Matthew, and why. During that time, they completed face-to-face interviews with residents of the town, members of the police force and Matthew’s friends. From over 200 personal transcripts, the playwrights constructed an extraordinary, word-for-word chronicle of life in the town after the murder. 70 different characters are played by a cast of 9 talented actors in a show that guarantees to have a profound impact on audience members.
