The Fish Creek Children's Festival of Stories

Starts: Sunday, 17 November 2024
Ends: Sunday, 17 November 2024
The Fish Creek Childrens Festival of Stories is a two-day festival in Fish Creek where families both residential and visiting will converge at Fish Creek this November for a weekend of free workshops by authors, illustrators, and ticketed children’s performances. Fishy Stories is a volunteer not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to engage young people in the process of story making and storytelling to grow their creative development abilities through exploration, decision making, and expression. The 2023 Fishy Stories National Writing Challenge has attracted over 800 entries from students (aged one to eight). All the submitted stories are published in an eBook and twenty entries are selected to be performed at the festival by storytellers Lou Endicott and Troy Larkin. They have confirmed Australian Children's Laureates Alison Lester, Gabi Wang and Leigh Hobbs plus established and budding authors Shelley Ware, David Lawrence, Sarah Martin, Andrea Rowe, Cassy Polimeni and Jeannette Martin. A special Illustrator workshop will be conducted by Craig Smith and Erica Wagner. There will also be performances from Cirque Disarray, Dr Hubble, and Luigi Zucchini, and all-day showcase marquees with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, MyLi Libraries, storytelling and story making, and a huge participatory event with BoxWars.
