Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival

Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival

Starts: Friday, 19 July 2024
Ends: Sunday, 21 July 2024
At the 16th Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival, world-class musicians play chamber music masterpieces at an intimate venue in the magnificent natural setting of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). For another intriguing program devised by Artistic Director Rachel Smith, they’re delighted to have as new faces the thrilling American-Australian harpist Emily Granger, clarinettist Maximiliano Martin from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, violinist Hed Yaron Meyerson from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Perth-based viola player Sally Boud and the Black Square Quartet. They will join festival regulars Stephen Emmerson and Sonya Lifschitz (piano), Eric de Wit (cello), Rachel Smith and Rebecca Seymour (violins) and Tim Munro (flute) in a program of chamber music old and new, from Haydn, Mozart, Schumann and Brahms to Kate Moore, Sally Beamish, John Cage and Philip Glass. Highlights of the program are the performance of Messaien's "Quartet for the End of Time" and the atmospheric "Dances and Metamorphoses" concert on Saturday night. The usual six concerts will again all be held at the Point Lookout Community Hall rather than at different venues on the island. Enjoy these three days of music amid the winter sun, surf and, of course, the humpback whales.
