The Freedom Collective and Big hART are honoured to welcome the people of Ieramugadu and surrounds to Songs for Freedom once again. Songs for Freedom is an uplifting concert of original songs created by Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi artists in Ieramugadu (Roebourne WA) and surrounding communities. This is a family-friendly event of cultural sharing through music, song, dance, and visual artworks. Under the musical direction of Grammy award-winning artist, Lucky Oceans, and with a powerful narration by Patrick Churnside, Songs for Freedom offers heartfelt messages of freedom and hope from Pilbara people, in our own words, and is set to fill the night with songs of peace, freedom and country. Songs for Freedom has its foundations in workshops involving the family of John Pat, whose death in custody in 1983, triggered the Royal Commission into deaths in custody. The 28 September 2024 is the 41st Anniversary of John Pat’s passing. This musical performance promises to summon your country soul and have you swaying to its blues bass lines. Bring your family, friends and your dancing feet for a night that can only be described as magic.
