Australia’s fittest surf sports athletes will battle it out over four rounds of iron racing across at the opening round of the Shaw and Partners Iron Series, held at Newcastle Beach NSW.
22 Ironmen and Women will be pushed to their limits in two race formats courses that test endurance, speed and skill in the ocean.
Round 2, Race 1 - Super Sprint is three Iron races, with the third race commencing with a staggered start. Iron Athletes will accumulate points in Iron Race 1 and 2. The final race will feature a handicapped start, with the Iron Athletes ranked first starting on ‘GO,’ and the remaining competitions then undertaking a handicap start in accordance to their ranking. The winner of Race 3 takes the most overall points for the Round.
Round 2, Race 2 - Three back-to-back Iron races, with the last six finishers in each race eliminated. Iron Athletes must stay out of the red zone if they want to claim as many points as possible in the Eliminator Rounds. The last placed Iron athletes will risk their place in the series and may find themselves knocked out of the entire Shaw and Partners Iron Series.
After Round Two's 22 Ironmen and Women have pushed through the gruelling two Iron formats, only the top 16 Iron Athletes will proceed heading into Round 3.
