Settled/Unsettled Panel Discussion

Starts: Sunday, 05 May 2024
Ends: Sunday, 05 May 2024
Maitland Regional Art Gallery are thrilled to present a panel discussion alongside the exhibition Settled/Unsettled. Hear from artists Penny Byrne and Kathrin Longhurst as they discuss the role of art in highlighting the voices of people affected or directly impacted by detainment, conflict, exile and fear. Joining the panel is Naz Jebeli – one of the extraordinary women painted in this exhibition by Kathrin Longhurst. Naz came to Australia seeking refuge from Iran with her mother and younger brother in 2013. Originally studying dentistry in Iran, she retrained in Australia finding hope and community in the Social Outfit, an enterprise providing employment and training to people from refugee and new migrant communities. Naz is now an entrepreneur and designer starting her own brand with a goal to create a world-renowned fashion business that will employ marginalised women.
