Pinchgut Opera presents Eternal Light

Starts: Sunday, 25 August 2024
Ends: Sunday, 25 August 2024
Celebrate the power and beauty of the most famous piece of Baroque vocal music: Allegri's Miserere. First performed in darkness and deemed so sublime that it was banned from public performance by the Pope, Allegri’s Miserere became one of the Vatican’s most closely guarded secrets, captivating audiences and composers for centuries. Now, for the first time, Sydney audiences can experience two versions of this awe-inspiring piece: a newly reconstructed version close to the original, and the other high C’s version, renowned for its ethereal high notes that add a dramatic and otherworldly dimension to the original composition. At the heart of Eternal Light is Biber’s transcendent Requiem F and instrumental works from his teacher, Schmelzer. This stunning concert program, specially curated and conducted by Erin Helyard, comes to life in the brilliant acoustics of City Recital Hall by Australia’s award-winning chorus, Cantillation, and the exceptional players of the Orchestra of the Antipodes. Come along for an extraordinary concert event which contemplates the mystery of eternity with the beloved sacred works of the early Baroque.
