Noise

Starts: Saturday, 17 August 2024
Ends: Saturday, 17 August 2024
A temporary police information van is stationed in Melbourne’s outer west following two horrific crimes. Assigned the night shift, Constable Graham McGahan (Brendan Cowell) talks with local community members while enduring worsening tinnitus. Meanwhile, survivor Lavinia (Maia Thomas) wrestles with the trauma of having witnessed one of the events, while the perpetrator remains at large. Matthew Saville won an Australian Directors Guild award for his deftly paced film, which paints a gripping portrait of violence simmering under the mundane surface of suburbia. Noise is supported by a masterful soundtrack, which won multiple awards for sound design and mixing. ‘...the atmosphere is totally immersive, and the performances are tremendously focused’ – Herald Sun Presented on 35mm film prints from the NFSA collection.
