Moora Working Draught Horse Muster
Starts:
Sunday, 20 April 2025
Ends:
Sunday, 20 April 2025
Spend a day watching beautiful big draught horses pulling a variety of horse-drawn vehicles and old machinery. Demonstrations of working horses continue throughout the day including an obstacle course, long-reining, scarifying and log-snigging. See teams of working horses using historic farming methods.
Moora Working Draught Horses is keeping old traditions alive with their big annual Easter Sunday event. These beautiful big horses were the backbone of this country as they ploughed, harrowed, and harvested the crops that helped feed our young nation. They were quite often the only mode of transport for families and carted food, water, building supplies, etc. to the vast outback homesteads.
See demonstrations and displays of historic methods of rope-making, horse-shoeing, black-smithing and harness making. Food and coffee are available all day and music will be provided by Callum Gleeson.
Entry is by gold-coin donation.
Make a weekend of it and also visit the Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival on Easter Saturday from 8.30am and culminating with the grand parade at 1.00pm featuring the fabulous Moora draught horses, steam engines and vintage cars. Lots of free entertainment for the kids, market stalls, an Easter egg hunt and a wood auction (run by Shearing for Kids with Cancer).
