Melbourne Tango Orchestra in concert and Milonguita

Melbourne Tango Orchestra in concert and Milonguita

Starts: Sunday, 25 August 2024
Ends: Sunday, 25 August 2024
Melbourne Tango Orchestra sit somewhere between the world of chamber music and a smoky, underground tango joint, offering a unique listening and dancing experience. Delivering a hefty sound, the orchestra features three bandoneóns, the infamous symbol of Argentinean tango. These musicians bring the mid-century underworld figures of tango to life - a thriving, contemporary tango music scene. One of the few traditional tango orchestras regularly performing outside of Buenos Aires, specialising in Golden-age and contemporary tango, and part of the twenty-first century tango music revival. Performing to packed houses at Milongas, Jazz Clubs, local government festivals and town halls across Melbourne and Regional Victoria, the orquesta collaborates with the best Latin American vocalist and dancers in Melbourne and bring their enthusiasm to the Snowy Mountain Tango Festival held annually in Corryong, NE Victoria. The Snowy Mountain Tango Festival (SMTF) is an Argentine tango boot camp for true beginners to learn to dance. A weekend full of dancing, socialising and exploring the Upper Murray for new and existing dancers from across Australia. But for those not attending the SMTF, they have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a divine musical experience with a specially organised concert. You will also have the opportunity to witness the dancers of the SMTF and professional instructors in the accompanying Milonguita.
