Joan Ross: Let’s party like it’s 1815

Starts: Friday, 03 May 2024
Ends: Monday, 29 July 2024
Joan Ross’s 2022 video work Let’s party like it’s 1815 is a critique on Australian colonisation. Ross sees Australian colonisation as ‘a car crash; in slow motion we watch the lack of regard and insensitivity– the long-drawn-out slide towards an inevitable crumpled heap. We saw it happening, but we couldn’t stop it, now it’s left for us to clean up.’ Bold and experimental, Joan Ross’ practice investigates the legacy of colonialism in Australia with a particular focus on reconfiguring the colonial Australian landscape and drawing attention to the complex and ongoing issues surrounding the effects of globalisation and colonisation.
