Hume & Hovell 200th Anniversary Celebration

Hume & Hovell 200th Anniversary Celebration

Starts: Saturday, 12 October 2024
Ends: Saturday, 12 October 2024
Set in the idyllic Yass Valley, Cooma Cottage invites you to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Hume & Hovell's Expedition with live music, demonstrations, stalls, guided tours and more. The Hume and Hovell Expedition was a journey of exploration and discovery undertaken in Eastern Australia between 1824 – 1825. Immerse yourself in history as they mark the occasion of this epic journey with a special open day at historic Cooma Cottage – the site where the Explorers and six fellow travellers camped overnight on 18 October 1824, and where Hume would later reside. Marvel at heritage trade demonstrations of woodworking, beekeeping and blacksmithing. Join a guided tour of Cooma Cottage and meander through the historic gardens and grounds, boasting beautiful views over the Yass Valley and offering unique access to the rarely opened stables. Grab a drink or bite to eat from one of the food stalls and browse an array of eclectic stalls selling jewellery, aprons, shopping bags, jams, sauces and fresh flower bouquets. A face painting stall and activities provided by the Yass Library will entertain the children. Some of the descendants of the Convicts who accompanied the Explorers on their epic journey will also be in attendance, as well as a number of special guests.
