Starts: Thursday, 02 May 2024
Ends: Thursday, 02 May 2024
Produced and narrated by journalist Waad Al-Kateab, For Sama presents an intimate and confronting portrait of life and motherhood in a war zone. Speaking directly to her newborn daughter, Sama, Al-Kateab captures the pain and trauma of life in Aleppo during the Syrian Civil War – where her husband, Hamza, is one of the few remaining doctors – amidst constant airstrikes and devastation. For Sama became the most-nominated documentary to date at the BAFTA awards, where it also won Best Documentary. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. ‘…a bracingly horrific but resiliently beautiful documentary’ – IndieWire
