Darwin Symphony Orchestra - Vital Forces

Starts: Saturday, 17 August 2024
Ends: Saturday, 17 August 2024
A breathtaking testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Join Larrakia Senior Elder Dr Aunty Bilawara Lee and NT Composer Netanela Mizrahi for the world premiere of their stunning new work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the devastating Cyclone Tracy that forever changed Darwin. Through Aunty B’s wisdom as a Larrakia Elder and lived experience of Cyclone Tracy, this new work crafted with Netanela Mizrahi brings a new perspective on our culture and history, in a uniquely moving new work. Two other incredible Australian works by Alice Chance and James Ledger have their NT debut. Don’t miss Ledger’s Signal Lost, meditating on the moments where communication fails, and Chance’s irresistibly playful tribute to life's journeys. This is followed Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony. Written in the shadow of war in 1944, this incredible work is in turn joyous, reflective, ominous and urgent. Culminating in a brilliant and charged finale, this vital work is not to be missed. Program: - Mizrahi/Lee New Work (World Premiere) - Ledger Signal Lost (NT Premiere) - Chance Through Changing Landscape (NT Premiere) - Prokofiev Symphony No 5. Purchase tickets to three or more DSO events in one transaction to receive 15% off. Book here (excludes Iconic at The Amphitheatre, George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens).
