The Avon Descent is back in 2024 and is one of Western Australia’s longest-running and most beloved sporting and community events attracting local, national and international competitors to compete in a series of power and paddle races on the Avon and Swan rivers alongside a host of free community festivals. Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a range of races, from a short 10-kilometre to the more gruelling 124-kilometre ultramarathon spanning the river between Northam to Bayswater. Follow the thrills and spills of the great race from one of the many river festivals conducted by local government partners the Shire of Northam, Shire of Toodyay, City of Swan, City of Bayswater and the City of Armadale. With plenty of entertainment for all ages, free rides, live race commentary, exciting spectator spots and much more, there is something for everyone!
