Australian Heritage Festival, Connections at Grants Picnic Ground

Starts: Wednesday, 08 May 2024
Ends: Sunday, 12 May 2024
A week-long event celebrating the connections in the Sherbrooke Forrest. From Traditional Owners Dreaming Story of Bullen Bullen, Indigenous Women’s workshop, Tom Tregellas Lyrebird history exhibition, Monbulk Historical Society Picnic ground colonial heritage exhibition. Starting on Sunday, they are pleased to be able to present Uncle Murrundindi and Family recreating the Bullen Bullen Dreaming Story. The Dreaming teaches how the animals talk to each other and how this story connects now to acceptance and deliverance. Participate in their women’s Emu Feather Head Dress workshop with indigenous artist and creator Cora Green. Head Dresses are traditionally used for ceremonies, so to have this special opportunity to make your own is unique. They have a rich history here in the Sherbrooke Forest with renowned field specialist Tom Tregellas having done his field studies here on the Superb lyrebird. Step back in time and relive the forest as it was when we were young. Enjoy the displays provided but the community groups dedicated to preserving this majestic forest now and in the future re-cementing those connections.
