Astro Photography, Supper and wine at Table House Farm

Astro Photography, Supper and wine at Table House Farm

Starts: Tuesday, 11 June 2024
Ends: Tuesday, 11 June 2024
As part of the “Permission to Trespass” series of events around Table Cape, would-be astro-photographers are invited to an evening with leading astronomer, Dr Martin George. As Principal Astronomer at Hive, Martin runs the Ulverstone Planetarium. A very engaging speaker, he frequently appears on radio and television, in Australia and overseas, and writes a weekly column for Hobart’s Saturday Mercury. While passionate about astronomy he’s also a very keen photographer. From the grounds of Table House, with dazzling night skies over Table Cape, Martin will show us how to photograph the Moon and the stars. He has chosen this date as an optimum night. Not intended for complex, high-tech photography, it’s an opportunity for amateur photographers to learn the basics. Martin will speak about general principles of astrophotography – basic equipment, exposures, f-stops and more – before heading outside with cameras and tripods, hopefully, to shoot award-winning pictures. You'll need cameras, tripods and warm winter woollies. Later we’ll serve a simple supper with wine, prepared by North-West Tasmania’s much-loved chef, Joseph Bugg. If the weather defeats our attempts at photography, there’ll be more wine, a roaring fire and another presentation from Martin, showing some of the finest images of the Universe. Guests who’d like to shoot the (hopefully spectacular) winter sunset before the main event begins are welcome to arrive from 4.15 pm.
