Australia's unique Annual Afro-Cuban Dance, Music and Culture Celebration. An exciting weekend exploring the history of Cuban culture through dance and percussion workshops plus performances in the roots of salsa from Australia's greatest Cuban dance and music artists. Afrekete 2024 will be held for the 2nd time in the Townsville LGA, this time on the beautiful island paradise of Yunbenun, Magnetic Island, home of the Wulgurukaba people. Thursday 6th June 2024 Rumba in the Rum-bar Pre-event warm up party Heritage Exchange Townsville Friday 7th June 2024 Opening Ceremony & Welcome to Cuba Party Amaroo on Mandalay Saturday 8th June 2024 'World Ocean Day' Workshops in Cuban dance and music from the Afro-Cuban Rumbas to the popular Cuban dances Son and Casino 'Havana Under the Sea' Blue & White Ocean themed dance party to live Cuban Band and DJ Amaroo on Mandalay Sunday 9th June 2024 Workshops in Afro-Cuban dance to live percussion - the African Roots of the popular Salsa @Amaroo on Mandalay Closing Beach Ceremony Plus authentic Cuban dinner Saturday night and Artisan stalls An authentic piece of Cuba in North Queensland.
