Ends: Wednesday, 12 June 2024
Sixty years ago, on June 12, 1964, The Beatles were welcomed by approximately 300,000 fans along the streets from the Airport to the Adelaide Town Hall. The band greeted their frenzied fans from the Adelaide Town Hall balcony during the official Civic welcome. The cultural and historical impact of this visit remains significant for the people of Adelaide, a UNESCO City of Music, and is celebrated as a major landmark for Australia in The Beatles own touring history. Adelaide Town Hall are commemorating the anniversary of The Beatles' visit with some exciting Beatles events. They're excited to host authors Greg Armstrong and Andy Neill for an in-conversation chat about their comprehensive new book 'When We Was Fab: Inside The Beatles Australasian Tour 1964'. Armstrong and Neill will take you backstage, giving you the scoop on what really went down during The Beatles' Australasian adventure and how they conquered Adelaide. From crazy fan moments to private snapshots, this book serves up the ultimate backstage pass. Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the foyer before and after the talk. They're also hosting The LadyBeatles in concert at Adelaide Town Hall prior to the author talk, 12:30-1:30pm. Attendees are welcome to come early and attend the free concert too.
