COOKED

Starts: Friday, 27 May 2022
Ends: Saturday, 28 May 2022
On August 22, 1770, a tall ship with white sails – captained by James Cook – unfurled a Union Jack on what is today called Possession Island. 18 years later, Captain Arthur Phillip raised the same Union Jack at Sydney Cove, marking the beginning of so-called Australia. 250 years later, we have some questions. This year let’s not settle for easy answers. (Because we know there aren’t any.) Let’s put a match to the white-wash. And engage in some real-talk. We’ve thought about it. And we have some questions. About this place. About the past. About right now. About the future. About where we want to be in 250 years’ time. Contribute to and support COOKED by answering three random questions and leave one yourself here. COOKED is a new work where First Nations young people are the ones asking the settlers of so-called Australia the questions. Made by Digi Youth Arts – a family of deadly young artists and creators honouring our ancestors, respecting our Elders and continuing the stories of one of the oldest surviving cultures in the world, in solidarity with The Good Room – a Queensland-based performance collective who use the anonymous experiences of ordinary people to create extraordinary theatre works. #alwayswasalwayswillbe Supported through the Australian Government's Indigenous Languages and Arts program.
