Big Works from a Small Country

Big Works from a Small Country

Starts: Monday, 27 June 2022
Ends: Sunday, 03 July 2022
Small Works from a Big Country features a selection of paintings by Aboriginal artists from recognised Aboriginal community-based art centres across the central and western deserts of Australia. Indigenous art centres play a vital role in the creation of works of artistic excellence by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across Australia, directly supporting both the artists and their communities, economically and socially, as well as artistically. The small-scale works in this exhibition have been ethically sourced directly from art centres located in the central and western deserts at the intersection of the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. Marg Bowman has more than 20 years' experience working with Aboriginal artists and writers in Central Australia, at Papunya Tula Artists and Tjanpi Desert Weavers, and in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander publishing at Jukurrpa Books/lAD Press, in Alice Springs.
